Day 2 - Visit Fez - Ifrane - Middle Atlas - Cedar Forest - Midelt - Merzouga
After a delicious breakfast at the riad, we begin our guided tour of the medina, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its labyrinthine streets are structured by guilds of potters, dyers … etc., and the bustle of its people will transport us back centuries. We will notice that it is a medieval city and that time has stopped in the clock “Magana Bounania”… 1,200 years after its construction. A marvel! Not far from Fez we will cross Ifrane, “The Moroccan Switzerland”, before reaching the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, where we will stop to visit the families of monkeys that live there. It’s time for the Atlas Mountains. A surprising change of scenery awaits us: we enter the Great South. The land becomes arid, with spectacular geological formations and deep valleys, such as the Ziz Valley, huge green spots in the middle of the desert. We will begin to observe mud architecture, palm trees, and some distant kasbahs…we are at the gates of the desert. In the afternoon we will arrive in Merzouga. Free time. Dinner and overnight in a riad facing the dunes of Erg Chebbi.

Later we will arrive at one of the strongest points of the south: the Todra Gorges. The Todra riverbed has formed a gorge of vertical walls of enormous proportions and great beauty, it is a climber’s paradise and a unique place. A half-hour walk is recommended to see and enjoy in detail the Gorges. In the afternoon, we will continue to the Dadès Valley, also known as the Valley of Figs.
