PLACE DJEMAA EL-FNA
This is the city’s main square and, throughout the day, it attracts tourists and locals alike, who flock here when the sun is shining to visit the orange juice and water stalls, as well as the snake charmers, henna-painting women and monkey boys.
At night, the atmosphere changes and you can see dancers, musicians and minstrels, who fill the whole square and create an atmosphere of drumming and fun.
We recommend that you sit down in one of the surrounding cafés to enjoy the atmosphere, or dine at one of the more than 100 stalls that are set up at this time, offering different types of Moroccan dishes.
Day 7 - Marrakesh - Visit with local guide
Day 7 - Marrakesh - Visit with local guide
In the morning, at the agreed time, the guide will pick you up from your accommodation and you’ll begin a cultural tour of the city’s most emblematic tourist attractions.
The tour of monuments and sights is on foot and accompanied by an official English-speaking city guide.
The guided tour includes a visit to :
- LA KOUTOUBIA, one of the marvels of Almohad art in the center of the city, once home to a stone palace called “Ksar AL HAJJAR”.
- BAHIA PALACE, built in the 19th century as the sultan’s residence. Bahia means brilliant, and in the 19th century Moroccans believed they had built the greatest palace of all time. To get there, we’ll pass through the Kasbah market, the Jewish quarter (El malah), the spice souk and Place Badia.
- THE SAADI TOMBES, one of Marrakech’s most visited sites. Dating from the late 16th century, these tombs are set in an enclosed garden accessible via a small passageway. Once you’ve crossed the threshold, you’ll discover mausoleums of great beauty, decorated with mosaics, and various tombs housing the graves of the sultans, warriors and servants of the Saadian dynasty.
- On this tour, we’ll enter the ZOCO and visit the MADRAZA DE BEN YOUSSEF, built in the 16th century as one of the most important Koranic schools. Here, students lived in austere cells while pursuing their religious studies. The most beautiful part of the visit is the inner courtyard with its architecture and mosaics, in harmony with the central pool used for ablutions before prayer. The visitor will find extreme tranquility here, after having passed through the hustle and bustle of the Medina streets.
- JARDIN MAJORELLE, this garden was built by the painter Jacques Majorelle, and he created it as he would create a work of art. Curiously, today, the color “bleu Majorelle” is often referred to in honor of the blue color used on the garden’s walls and details. In the 1980s, the legendary couturier Yves Saint-Laurent bought it and increased the number of plant species to over 300. It became his favorite place, whose ashes he wanted scattered among the bamboos and water lilies.
- And finally, the PLACE DJEMAA EL FNA, Marrakech’s central square and the most important in the medina. This is where Marrakech’s public life takes place, day and night. The best thing about Place DJemaa el Fna is the transformation it undergoes throughout the day.
